Blast from the Past

This photo is so good...and the outfits so fantastic (I remember not recognizing some of our tennis players) that I had to publish it again -- especially at this time of the year. Thanks Corky for the photo.

Correction!

A quick correction to the HEB tennis blog...yes, I do make mistakes - my apologies. The captain of the Super Silver team is Violet M. not Carrie S. Captain Carrie helped Violet facilitate, and by doing the necessary computer work.

Silver Senior Team

Dare I say it! These ladies are all over 70 years of age...and don't look a day over 50 years! Here are just a few of the ladies who made up the team, and who took the Silver Senior Championship this past week at Ken Caryl Ranch. Despite the aches and pains, the weather was absolutely glorious for tennis, and our HEB team did us proud. Captain Carrie was out of town, but has kept in close contact rallying her "gals" to do their best...and they did just that! Thank you ladies!

Through to the Semi-Finals

Our HEB 3.5 tennis team played their hearts out in the Senior League (50+ years of age) but couldn't quite pull it off. They got through to the semi-finals on Sunday...but had very tough opponents. There were tie-breakers in several matches...but our gals hung in until the very end. As Carrie S. team captain of the 3.5. team commented. "Again it came down to tiebreakers and our girls won again!! So now they are in the semi-finals(Top 4 teams) in the District championships to be played Sunday(Sept.9) at 8:00 A.M. at Inverness!! Congratulations to captain Gail Hedy and her team who just keep on winning!!!Way to go, girls!!!Team members are Gail Hedy, Louise Forsythe, Joann Poluszny, Elinor Newman, Liz Wallace, Nancy Strauss, Carol Chiolero and Kathy Ebdon!WOW!!!"

Great Program!

From left to right: John, Violet, Janice, Neemie and Nancy.

John P. and Larry D. have been coaching our gals by providing drills, strategy sessions, etc. for several weeks. Many ladies have taken advantage of the great advice, and some have already seen an improvement in their play. "Sometimes, just one piece of advice can make all the difference..." said Nancy W. "We are thrilled to have someone take the time to help us - and we are very grateful to John and Larry..."

After the Match

A rare photo indeed! Snapped quickly before they knew it...the 3.5 men of Heritage Eagle Bend celebrate their win last week in the gazebo after their matches.

Senior 3.5 team Undefeated

Elinor, Joanne and Nancy watch Louise and Gail take the 3.5 team to a 6-0 win this past Thursday at the Pinery Tennis Club. It was a hard fought match, but our gals pulled on their reserves to take the match. The team will now represent HEB at Districts this coming Friday/Saturday/Sunday. This is the first time in Heritage Eagle Bend's tennis history that the Senior Team has made it to Districts...and that's something to brag about.

Thanks to Captain Carol

At an appreciation luncheon last week, Carol C. was presented with a pillow made from the Super Senior ladies' 3.5 red T-shirts. The ladies believed their shirts had brought them luck over the years, taking them to Districts, Sectionals and finally Nationals...so were reluctant to trash them. Consequently, the "bling" (the shiny part) was cut out, joined, and made into a pillow to remind our captain of all those wonderful achievements.

HEB VS Inverness

It was said last night that the tennis group spend almost as much time enjoying the festivities after their games, as they do by actually playing their matches! That might be true...but the 3.5 Senior team won all three matches last evening against a very good, and determined team from Inverness Tennis Club.  Two of our teams were taken to tie breaks, however, we were able to pull them out with a 10-8 score (respectively.) Well done to our ladies!

The Monday Morning Group

The Monday morning group varies in size from 4 to 12 players. All members are welcome to attend. The organizer does her best to make sure everyone enjoys their matches and teams ladies up accordingly. They play on Monday mornings at 8:00 AM (sign up on gazebo board.) Thursday mornings also at 8:00 AM but is "drop in" tennis.

The Last Match of the Season

The 3.5 Super Seniors played their last match against The Denver Tennis Club at their location on Wednesday, and won all three matches. The competition was very, very good, and our opponents were fantastic! They complimented us on our play and standing (we are second in the league.) Great food and great play...what more could we ask for?

BRAVO - to our HEB Tennis Team

The 3.5. Men's Super Senior team have done it again! Last year they represented HEB at Districts, and now they've doing to do it again. They quietly and successfully won match after match, until they took the lead in their division. We want you to know that we're very proud of you, and we hope you don't mind us bragging.

The Last Super Senior 3.0 Match

Captain Carrie's team finished on a win this past Friday as spectators looked on. Their last match against Inverness ended with a 2-1 win. Since the age group will be changed next year (amid lots of speculation) due to the lowering of the age group...Carrie has decided to step back and let this be her last year of acting as captain. She is going out on a high note, having taken her teams to Districts, Sectionals and Nationals - for many years. Well done Carrie! We thank you for your leadership, courage to do the right thing, even under difficult circumstances sometimes, and your undying confidence in your players. A big thank you from us all.

Both HEB Teams Doing Well

We are glad to report that both the 3.0 and 3.5 ladies tennis teams are very doing well in their respective leagues. Each is in second place with the possibility of getting the "wild card" to play at the District Championship.

Carrie S. captain of the 3.0 ladies reported another win against a very tough Avarda team this week. They play their last match on Friday at home (July 6th) so please come out and cheer them on. The 3.5 team's last match will be played a week later on July 11th (their match conflicted with July 4th.)

We are so proud of you all!

Windy Day!

Dear players and friends --We played Inverness at HEB under very windy conditions. I'm happy to report we won 3-0. #1 Doubles Violet and Janice won 6-4,6-4. #2 Doubles Carol Lawson and Donna Swartout won 6-1,6-2. #3 Doubles Carrie and Nancy Wagner had the longest match lost the first set 6-7in a tiebreaker, then came back to win second set 6-3, and then won a 10-8 tiebreaker for the match! Right now we're in second place pending how the Arvada-Highlands Ranch match came out today. So far, after 3 weeks we're the only team who has won 3-0 over any other team. So, our division is pretty even! Next week we play Highlands Ranch(for 2nd time) here at HEB.

Happy Memorial Day weekend-go HEB GOLD!!! Captain Carrie

The Season Begins

Monday, April 30, 2012

Well...what can I say about our 3.0 Super Senior team who represented us in Sunrise, Arizona. The conditions were deplorable, and we at home were worried sick. They tried valiantly for us, but in the end, the conditions won out. See following comments from Ron Sharp.

"It should be noted at this point the heat took its toll at the Nationals. The ladies were playing in heat approaching 100 degrees. Carrie and Janice had to go to the paramedics. Carrie started chilling in the heat.  7 people (from other teams) were taken to the hospital and numerous treated at the scene. The result was moving a number of the matches for Saturday to early morning or evening."

Note from us: Thank you one and all for doing your very best to represent HEB - we are proud of you.

They Did It Again!

All I can say is... "You had to have been there to witness it..." Our ladies did us proud again this year by winning at Sectionals -- and that is something to brag about! Who would have thought that such a relatively small community could produce two super senior teams that would represent the whole of Colorado! It's absolutely amazing! Each team (3.0 and 3.5) won their respective divisions. This means they now play at Nationals in Arizona next month. Last year, our 3.0 super senior team got through to Nationals, but couldn't quite clinch the title. Now they have another chance.

We are so very proud of our ladies. They played their hearts out. They not only represented Heritage Eagle Bend, but indeed the whole of Colorado. Well done teams!

Luncheon Group

The ladies of HEB tennis met last week for a wonderful get together. Both captains from the 3.0 and 3.5 teams were in attendance, and much of the conversation was devoted to the upcoming Sectionals in Vegas. Following are the flights for each team:

Our 3.0 Super Senior team plays on March Friday, March 9-11:00 A.M. vs. Idaho and 3:30 vs. Nevada. Sat (March 10) we play at 12:30 vs. Idaho and 3:30 vs. Nevada. Evidently, it's a "double round robin" and the team with the best record moves on to Nationals.

Our 3.5 Super Senior team plays on Friday, March 9 at 11:00 am; Saturday at 8:00 am and 2:00 pm; and Sunday at 9:30 am.

Teams in Training

Never let it be said that our teams have not worked hard throughout the winter months to represent Heritage Eagle Bend, and indeed the whole of Colorado at Sectionals. Both 3.0 and 3.5 teams leave for Las Vegas the first week of March, and anticipate some hard matches. The captain's 3.0 team Carrie S. takes her team to Highland's Ranch to practice, and Carol C. team practices at Meadow Creek Tennis Club.  The teams are unbeat, determined and excited. Flights, rooms, and complicated schedules ferrying our members back and forth from the airport have all been arranged. At least one HEB member who resides in the area throughout the winter months will be having a party for our ladies. We wish our teams the best of luck.
